We are extremely excited to be offering Bed Stu boots at Panache! These aren’t just any old shoes, these are the real deal!
About Bed Stu
Bed Stu (pronounced like ‘hi’ with an ‘st’ in front of it) derives its name from Bedford Stuyvesant (called Bed Stuy by locals), a neighborhood in the north central New York City borough of Brooklyn, which has a pretty dubious reputation. It’s true that the early 1960’s through the 1980’s were rough years for this particular area of Brooklyn. However, beginning in the 2000s, the neighborhood began to experience gentrification. And now it’s what I would consider a pretty hip spot. All right, you’re thinking, enough history let’s talk about the boots!
How They’re Made
The best part about these are their quality. Handcrafted from the best materials, these boots can last you up to 20 years. How you ask? Well it all starts with the Goodyear welt they use to affix the sole to the upper. In the picture below I’ve labeled the important parts of a boot to make this all a bit more comprehensive.
A Goodyear welted shoe is considered to be the cream of the crop. If you haven’t heard of this process before I’m not surprised, sadly, it’s not used as often in the fast fashion world of women’s shoes. General consensus is that Goodyear welted shoes are more comfortable and more durable than any other type of shoe construction. There are three main reasons behind this. First, the sole can be replaced. That’s right, they are able to unstitch the upper from the outsole and swap in a new outsole. Second, the cork filling between the insole and outsole, molds to your foot over time to create an almost custom like foot bed. Which equals extreme comfort! Third, they are relatively waterproof because of the way the upper is stitched to the outsole (although I wouldn’t go puddle jumping or anything!). Also, it’s not just anyone who’s able to make a Goodyear welt. It takes true artisans to be able to handle this process. So the time and skill spent to make the shoe is much greater than in any of the other construction method.
The other essential to a nice pair of boots is a beautiful leather. All of the Bed Stu boots at Panache are made with full grain leather. Without getting to deep into the process of tanning leather, I’ll say that full grain leather is the strongest most durable part of the hide. It isn’t sanded or buffed which means that the original strength stays intact, meaning your boots will last longer and continue to get more beautiful with age/wear.
Without further ado, let me introduce you to the Hustle, Tango, Valencia, and Manchester. The four different styles of Bed Stu boots we’re offering. All of which can be worn year round, pairing well with both jeans and skirts/dresses!
The Hustle has functional dual zippers on an upper that’s been hand burnished to have a vintage feel. It also has a leather outsole with rubber grips placed on heel and toe for great traction!
The Tango is a moto inspired boot that has functional zippers on both the inside and outside for easy on and off. Plus, the hand-burnished upper lends and air of worn in perfection.
The Valencia is the modern cowgirls go to boot! With beautiful flower design and leather outsole you just slip it on and go!
The Manchester (in two colors!) features classic lines with a heel that’s just right, all making it this seasons must-have boot!
We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!!
Until next time!
